Did you miss the 50th anniversary of the opening of Nevada Junior-Senior High School? I did. Here is an update to this Web page with text/photos from the 1959 Nevamo ...

"This is Nevada's new Junior-Senior High School located in the 800 block of West Hickory Street. Built to replace the former building destroyed by fire November 29, 1956, the classroom section of this modern, functional building was begun August 27, 1957, and was opened to 864 students and 40 faculty members September 15, 1958. This $1,210,047.00 school and four elementary schools form the AAA Reorganized School District Five."

July 25, 2008 E-mail
The following message was sent to the e-mail addresses on the contact list (below) and is included here for reference.

This note is to share information with you about a new Website focused on the Nevada High School Class of 1963 located at http://nhs1963.com. The initial and main purpose of the Website is to provide information about the upcoming Sept. 12-13, 2008, 45th Class Reunion. You should have already received the planning and registration information from Donna Thomas. A copy of that information is provided on the Website.

John Shaw, our classmate who setup the previous NHS63 Website, passed away. RIP. We no longer have access to that information. Please send photos and/or information about yourself so that they can be shared with others via the new Website. Photos (graphics format for Website posting) might date back to 1963, or earlier, be those taken at a previous reunion, or be about yourself/your family. Information about yourself or your family is welcomed, however brief or lengthy, particularly updates that might not be known by your classmates.

Please review your information in the contact list (http://www.nhs1963.com/1/nhs63list.htm) for completeness and accuracy. We hope to get phone numbers and e-mail addresses where available for those that are missing. If you have any information about anyone listed where there is incomplete or inaccurate information, please send changes to Donna Thomas (dcthomas at hotmail.com). Please send any information about yourself or your family and/or photos for use on the Website to Warren Glimpse (kualoa1 at gmail.com).

Reunion Announcement, Plans, Registration
These notes were sent earlier by mail and included here in case anyone has not seen this information.

We’ve planned the 45th reunion for the Class of ’63 and we’re making a special effort to get really good attendance—begging, pleading, whining…whatever it takes. If you didn’t make the last reunion—or if you’ve never been to a reunion—or if you’ve never missed one, mark the date and make plans to attend. Call, write, or email former classmates you specifically want to see at the reunion and encourage them to come, too. Since most of us are “empty nesters” and many are already retired, we’re having an early fall reunion again. That worked well last time!

Once again, Friday night, September 12, is a home football game night and we’ll meet in the High School main lobby at 6:00 p.m., then walk across the street to Logan Stadium to seats reserved for our class. After the game (sometime after half-time) everyone who want to go, we’ll head across town to the local Mexican restaurant, Casa Azteca, for another opportunity to visit and relax. This part is “dutch treat” and you can eat and drink whatever you wish. If the weather is good, we’ll have access to the outdoor patio in addition to be back room. Azteca is just north of Austin on Centennial Boulevard (like going to the Fairgrounds.)

On Saturday, September 13, we have been invited to Bob and Arlene Bowen’s home just south of Nevada. It is from 2-4 p.m. (Go south on Ash, turn east (left) at Ricketts corner and their home is the third house on the right. We appreciate their hosting this activity and it will give us an additional opportunity to visit with each other prior to the dinner on Saturday night. Finally, starting at 6:00 p.m., we’ll gather at the Nevada Country Club (south Spring Street) at 6:00 p.m. and the class group photo is scheduled to be taken promptly at 6:30—so don’t be late!!! Dinner will be served at 7:00 p.m., and it will be followed by a short program of announcements, recognitions, etc. and then everyone will be free to visit the night away. There will be a cash bar, but the dinner is included in your $15 reservation

Not many former teachers have survived, but we try to find and invite as many as possible. If there is anyone specifically you’d like included, let us know and we’ll make sure we invite them.

We will not be doing a booklet—it’s lots of work and we have such a hard time getting everyone to submit information early enough to get it finished before the 11th hour. However, we’ll make the mailing list available to everyone to make it easier to contact other former classmates. Our webmaster for the last reunion, John Shaw, passed away last year, so we won’t have a web page, unless one of you techno savy classmates want to take on that project

Please return your reservation as soon as possible—before August 1st if possible so we can start finalizing plans. If you get this mailing by US Mail, and you have a email address that you use regularly, please let us know what it is. It will speed up future correspondence and updates. Just email it to dcthomas at hotmail.com. Another popular activity at past reunions is a MEMORY TABLE. If you have old school photos or memorabilia, or recent family photos you’d like to display on Saturday night, please bring them and we’ll have a special spot waiting for them. We are really looking forward to seeing all of you in September. Please respond soon and contact old friends you’d like to see there.

Please access the registration form and complete and send as soon as possible.
